Too Attractive To Advise Young Women?

I think this is rather absurd – In Australia, women trying to promote a positive body image are being criticized for being too attractive.

This all came about after the Minister of Youth, Kate Ellis (the driving force behind the Body Image Advisory Group) along with former Cosmopolitan editor Mia Freedman and Sarah Murdoch, a model and TV producer, set up the National Body Image Strategy. A truly wonderful idea where they give out initiatives, which helps Australian women of all sizes to learn to love their body.

positive body image

Could you think of any reason why this could be detrimental to Australia’s population? Well, someone did. There would have to be someone go and ruin it all by saying they are too attractive to be giving out advice to those who need it.

Don’t forget that there are women out there who we would consider among the most beautiful, yet still they have body issues and disorders. I don’t think that these women should be pulled down because of how they look – I think that kind of messes the whole point of trying to love yourself for who you are.

Furthermore, these women have experiences with body images, whether first hand or having worked with those desperately seeking a way out of self-degradation. I am sure that what they are doing will show the light to many people suffering from body issues and severe disorders and if only a handful is helped by what they have set out to do then it is better than none at all.

My point is that you don’t have to be fat to give advice on body issues as evidently it is something that affects us all – whether we are considered hot or not.
