Why the C-word is So Taboo!

For the purpose of this post and as not to offend – we are going to refer to this taboo word as the ‘C-word’. I’ve found myself questioning this word of late and wondering what all the fuss is about – why is it sooo taboo?

We have always seen this word as one of the worst of curses, a major insult to anyone on the other end of the word, and it just sounds ugly and grotesque. Even when used in a context rather than as an obvious insult, this word still has the power to make us shudder. There seems to exist a cultural discomfort surrounding the female body that has made certain parts of our anatomy become degrading words. What about the saying “You have made a right BOOB of that job” for example.

Taboo

Or for men too that get called a ‘P*ssy’ if they let their girlfriends get the final word or if they back down from a heated discussion/fight. Even our canine friends are not excluded from taboo words – with the female term for dog ” b*tch ” being another insulting and derogatory term.

The “C-word” remains too offensive for most, with tamed words such as camel toe and “vajayjay” taking its place. Why does the female anatomy continue to be sanitized like we would be ashamed of our own sexuality – even the word “v*g*na” is too crude for some, better left to the gynecologist?

Why should we apologize for using words like our C-word? When we acknowledge the power and beauty of women?
